As we prepare for this year’s Aces for Ana tennis tournament, I’m reminded once again of the power of friendship, resilience, and community. This tournament is more than just a series of tennis matches—it’s a celebration of life, a tribute to Ana’s incredible spirit, and a way to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

 

Remembering Ana

Last year, we came together for the second annual Aces for Ana tournament, rallying in memory of Ana Klein after her passing in October 2022. Ana was so much more than a tennis partner—she was my dear friend and a fierce warrior who inspired everyone around her. Diagnosed with stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer, Ana faced every challenge with a heart full of bravery and an unwavering determination to live life to its fullest.

When Ana stood beside us at the inaugural Aces for Ana tournament, it wasn’t just a moment; it was a movement. Her joy on the court and her determination off of it reminded us of the importance of supporting each other and continuing the fight for those facing this battle.

A Record-Breaking Year in 2023

Last year’s tournament was bittersweet but extraordinary. With the help of friends, family, and an incredible community of supporters, we smashed past our fundraising goal of $23,000, raising an incredible $26,500! I want to take a moment to thank Beth, Carrie, Karen, and Kelly for stepping in and helping make last year’s event such a success.

 

Their dedication (and that of so many others in our amazing community) ensured that we not only honored Ana’s legacy but also continued her mission to support other cancer warriors.

What’s New in 2024?

This year, we’re taking the tradition Ana was so passionate about and adding even more heart to it. For the first time, we’re introducing a dedication wall. This special wall will be a space for players and attendees to honor cancer patients—whether you’re playing for a loved one, for yourself, or for someone still fighting. It’s a reminder that every match won, every dollar raised, and every story shared brings us closer to making an impact.

 

Why We Play

Aces for Ana is not just about tennis. It’s about the laughter that echoes across the courts—the kind Ana loved so dearly. It's about the friendships and connections we form as we come together for a cause bigger than ourselves. And, most importantly, it’s about creating hope, honoring those we love, and standing strong as a community in the face of adversity.

Ana’s absence is felt every day, but her legacy continues to inspire. With every serve, every point, and every smile, we carry forward her wish to bring light to those battling cancer. Her strength and spirit motivate us to keep rallying, to keep fundraising, and to keep fighting.
